Gökçenay Kaplan Başer
She graduated from the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling at Boğaziçi University with the Prof. Dr. Turhan Oğuzkan Award. She then completed her specialization in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Couple and Family Therapy at Istanbul Bilgi University, with a thesis titled “Exploring Relationship Growth and Family-of-Origin Based Resilience in Couples Coping with Child Loss.”
During her undergraduate studies, she worked as a content writer for the Relate mobile mental health app and participated in a TÜBİTAK project focused on combating cyberbullying among adolescents. She completed her internship at Sakıp Sabancı Anatolian High School, providing group counseling and guidance services.
She continued her academic work as a research assistant at Koç University’s Risk, Resilience, and Relationship Lab (3R Lab), where she conducted an AI-based emotion recognition study in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy. Currently, she continues her research on the use of artificial intelligence in mental health both at Koç University 3R Lab and the University of Texas at Austin, in the Technological Interventions for Ecological Systems (TIES) Lab.
She provides online therapy sessions for adolescents, adults, couples, and families, addressing topics such as grief and loss, anxiety disorders, migration and immigration issues, relationship challenges, test anxiety, and parenting skills. In her work, she adopts an integrative approach grounded in psychodynamic and systemic theories and incorporates methods from Narrative Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy.
