Merve Yenal Altın

She was born in Istanbul in 1977. She graduated from the Psychology department of Boğaziçi University in 2000. She pursued her master's degree in Psychology Sciences in the same department.

 

With her thesis on "Attributions of Different Status Groups to Each Other's Successes and Failures," she graduated with 'High Honor Degree.' After her master's degree, she worked as an assistant psychologist in the child and adolescent department at DBE (Institute of Behavioral Sciences) for a while.

 

From 2008 to 2013, she lived in Germany. She completed a three and a half-year training in Systemic Family Therapy at the Familientherapie Institut Weinheim. Her trainer, Dr. Maria Bosch, is an internationally renowned figure who brought Systemic Family Therapy to Germany and is honored with awards every year.

 

During her time in Germany, she volunteered at a counseling institution called IFZ (Internationales Familienzentrum), which provided psychosocial counseling to immigrants. She provided individual, couple, and family therapy to people from different countries, mostly Turkish. Her supervisor and consultant were Kurt Heilbronn, one of the respected names in Family Therapy in Germany.

 

Before returning to Turkey, she worked as a specialist psychologist at Vitos Klinik Bamberger Hof, a psychiatric clinic, for a year and a half. Vitos Hochtaunus is a wide-ranging group of psychiatric hospitals and clinics in Germany. As an employee of this group, she had the opportunity to become more familiar with the German healthcare system and therapy approach.

 

During her time in Germany, she attended numerous conferences, seminars, and trainings. Besides her training in Family Therapy, she completed a 40-hour Gestalt Therapy training and a 20-hour Trauma Training.

 

For personal development, she participated in the mandatory 9-day Family Reconstruction training, where every family therapist has to work on "their own family." She fulfilled the requirement of receiving 112 hours of therapy to be recognized as a therapist.

 

Altın has been living in Turkey since April 2013 and works with individuals, couples, families, and organizations using the systemic family therapy approach. Altın practices as a therapist in Kocaeli and Istanbul, and she also provides various trainings as an expert psychologist.

 

She is also a part-time lecturer at the Psychology Department of Yeditepe University.


She is a member of the PREP (Psychological Rehabilitation and Education Programs) Association and TAP Der (Turkish-German Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, and Psychosocial Health Association).
