Clinical Psychologist
Sendi Bağban Başaran
Sendi Bağban Başaran is highly experienced clinical psychologist who specializes in working with adolescents and adults. She studied psychology at Bilgi University and completed her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with a focus on trauma at Okan University.
Between 2014 and 2019, she gained extensive experience working with children adolescent and families dealing with migration, loss, grief, war and trauma at the Esenler Multi-Purpose Support Center, which partnered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) thorough the Human Resource Development Foundation (HRDF). She also facilitated group therapy for children as part of the Yanyana project with the Biriz Association and conducted filedwork related to migration, disaster and societal traumas in Suruç and Akçakale under Concern Worldwide
During times of community crises like Soma Mine Disaster, Izmır Earthquake and Kahramanmaraş Earthquake she volunteered her expertise in psychological support both in the field and online, in collaboration with the Turkish Pyschological Association. Since 2015, she has continued to volunteer in providing psychosocial support and emergency assistance during various disasters and crises.
In addition to her trauma work, Sendi completed Level I and II EMDR training with Emre Konuk and Asena Yurtsever and received training and supervision in EMDR from Şirin Atçeken, Tuba Akyüz, Zeynep Özmeydan and Roger Solomon. In 2021 she completed her supervision and became an EMDR Europe Accredited therapist.
From 2019 to 2022 she worked with university students and taught courses related to refugees in the ‘’Humanitarian Assistance & Crisis Management global master’’ program at Kadir Has University’s counseling Center. She continues to train professionals and volunteers in various organizations working with refugees, immigrants and mental health.
Since 2017, she has been providing therapy to adults dealing with individual and societal trauma, childhood and developmental trauma, sexual abuse, birth trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD, loss and grief, anxiety, anger and stress management relationship issues, low self-esteem and feeling of inadequacy.
In her therapy sessions with adolescence and adults Sendi focuses on helping with individual and developmental trauma, anxiety disorders, adaptation and adjustment problems, anger management and relationship issues. She uses various therapeutic approaches including psychodynamic, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Solution-Focused methods.
Sendi is recognized as an EMDR Europe Accredited therapist and is an active member of the Turkish Psychological Association and the EMDR Association. She also serves as a board member of Biriz Association.
Sendi currently lives in London and conducts her sessions online.
